In which FCM is shocked, amazed and a little bit flattered

October 21, 2007

Ricky and I are at Trader Joe’s at Masonic. Trader Joe’s here is always so crowded they litterally have a line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot. it’s always crazy inside as well. I think they should have a security gaurd inside too, not just directing traffic outside.

anyway, Ricky and I are partaking in the lovely samples of coffee, juice and soup when a conversation catches my attention. it was about blogging. Of course I look at the two women talking. they look to be about 40 years old. both of them have kids who look to be about grade school. they were running about. We were walking by them looking for the excellent hummas when I heard what I think was funny is when I hear, “Have you read Fog City Mommy?”

Ricky and I came to a complete hault. I wasn’t sure I heard that right. but no, I did… they continued on. yes, they had read FCM and found her writing to be “humerous, beautiful and shocking.” (wow. thanks) but they “couldn’t uderstand how I am not going crazy with a two year old and a job at the moruge.” I never said I haven’t gone crazy. 🙂

I was so flattered. so very very flattered.

So two you women in the TJ’s yesterday, black hair and brown hair with highlights, with the cute kids…. thanks. little did you know that FCM was the one with the baby who you commented was a charmer!

now comment damn it! 🙂

Meeting Frank

October 19, 2007

So I can offically say that I am really in awe of the founder of post secert. he is so incrediably down to earth. so very VERY down to earth. how down to earth? he loved Ricky.

This book signing was in a really small bookstore in the Haight Ashbury District (summer of love land) called the Booksmith. It’s an independent bookshop with really funky people working there. I arrived about an hour and a half before the signing and there was Frank. I was in awe. He was talking to the head guy. Ricky babbled and waved hi to him, to which he he said hi and waved back.

the speaking deal was cool as well. he walks out to a huge crowd and simply says, “Hi… my name is frank and I collect secrets.” he went on to tell baout how he got the idea, how his neighbors think he’s totally cracked, how he works now and what inspired the project. oh god, so cool. during the whole presentation Ricky was a doll. he was playing peek a boo with Frank from his chair and giggling. I kept signing “Sorry!” but he didn’t say anything.

I lined up like everyone else to get my book signed for Ricky. I was toward the end and ricky was running down the asile cracking up. I was playing peek a boo and finally we got to the front. We apporached and Frank said, “There’s my little man!! he is so adorable!”

FRANK.WARREN.THINKS.MY.SON.IS.ADORABLE!!!!!!

FURTHERMORE, HE ASKED ME IF HE WAS SIGNING THE BOOK FOR RICKY AND TOLD RICKY IT WAS GREAT TO MEET HIM!!

So I told him how great his site was, how he inspires me, how he got me through a really rough year and then I gave him a copy of my book, which I talk about his site in it and HE was excited! holy crap!

and I got me and ricky’s picture with him!!

this MADE my year!!

memories

October 10, 2007

Ricky is still sick.

I have had the flu shot so of course I feel like crap too.

what’s a mommy to so?

Download the 2nd season of Weeds on iTunes and curl up in the bed with the little man and we watch Weeds.

Hey, it’s not like I am watching south park with him (at least not tonight). the thing is, we BOTH feel like crap. So what else can we do?

it turns out it’s now one of my favorite memories of Ricky. We just snuggled under the big down comforter and watched TV on my laptop, listening to the pouring rain. I need to bottle this memory.

He is getting so old, so quickly. I can’t beleive it. I really want to have more. not now, but more in the future. but here is the problem: I am a single person in my 30s. likely hood I will find someone? who likes kids? who is kind? and not a loser? hmmm…. not high.

maybe I am just a little depressed; lot’s of aniverseries this week.

under attack.

October 4, 2007

Today, after finishing up at ucsf having th egood old ears and eyes checked, which was not too bad by the way, I was walaking to the car when over head I hear a load roar. like very other idiot in the street I stopped and looked up to see a plane racing overhead towards the financial district at a very high speed.

My first thought? “oh god, we are under attack again. they are headed to the transamerica building!” people around me were looking up with concern. frantic murmering was running through the throngs of people who had raced out of their offices and lobbies to see what the noise was about. people were stopped in the streets and getting out of cars. I can only imagine waht 911 was like in NY.

The fast moving plane headed downtown. as quickly as it came, another plane was on it’s tail. this one was a fighter plane. and it looked familliar… in fact, they were flying in formation over the entire city. a few minutes later two more jets joined the other two fighters. all of a sudden I started laughing at my own paranoia:

it’s fleet week in SF

To those who want to rip on my spelling…
